YES WE ARE OPEN

Well,
the most notable thing that happened this last week was that we got a couple of HUGE new OPEN signs, as the one in the back window near the audios fell apart after years of sun exposure.  The new signs are so HUGE that they don't actually fit so well in the windows and they block out what light we get, so for now we are only using the CLOSED side of the sign in the far window and taking the whole thing away and storing it in front of the safe while we are open.
Patrons who are driving by on Clares street will be able to read it if we are closed and if the sign isn't out, hopefully they will figure out that we are open.
We are not currently using the extra sign for now. We will continue to use the smaller sign in the window of the discharging office for both open and closed hours.

Next Friday is our last story hour for the summer and then starting June 11th the summer reading program will commence. If any patrons ask you about it you can direct them to the front desk or let them know that information will be available on our home page starting on that date.  The Capitola summer reading family craft will be Fridays at 11:15. This is geared for all ages and there will only be a story  if people request one from the facilitator. There will also be other special Capitola programs over the summer including a puppet show and a stuffed animal sleep over. I will keep you updated on these programs and whatever else is coming our way as they get closer.

Our NASA display hasn't shown up yet as of this writing so I have not yet put up any space posters in the children's area, but I will do as soon/if our display appears.

On a personnel note: Sadly our aide Gina Garcia is going to have to do her aide hours closer to SV or Downtown, due to a change in her housing location, so her hours are up for grabs. I sent an e-mail to all the aides in the system with the details so check your library aide email if you are interested in adding hours to your schedule.  We are looking for someone to fill shifts on Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30-1:30 and a Saturday shift from 9-1 and these shifts will probably start in early to mid June. Let me know if you are interested and when you would be available to start.

Also, don't forget to e-mail me your preferences for our potential upcoming expanded schedule (see last weeks blog) when you've had time to mull it a bit.

This week's story hour is celebrating the life of Maurice Sendak so if you check any of those books in, pleae put them on my desk. I think we only have a couple in our collection and they always seem to be checked out.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Holiday and remember to honor all the veterans who have served so we could have a holiday!
   Best,
Cappy Dick
